STUDY TOUR 5: Vienna - Semmering - Leoben - Hieflau - Steyr - Melk - Vienna
Departure from Vienna to Semmering and visit the project Arge Tunnel Fröschnitzgraben. This is a railway tunnel under construction between Gloggnitz and Mürzzuschlag in Austria underneath the Semmering Pass. The existing route is 41 km in length and the Semmering Base Tunnel will be 27.3 km in length. We continue then to Leoben – dinner and overnight in Leoben or surrounding.
Travel to Hieflau to see the power plant Gstatterboden lake. Continue to ZAB – Zentrum am Berg - Visit the biggest and most modern open-pit mining zone of Central Europe, the most important iron ore deposit of the Alps, cradle of Austrian industrialization, and scene of the toughest Enduro-race in the world: the Erzbergrodeo. Afterwards drive to Steyr, dinner and overnight.
On our day trip back to Vienna, we will enjoy the beautiful Austrian landscape and a tour of Melk abbey with its famous, magnificent library, and a boat ride on the Danube along the Wachau.
Minimum participation of 20 persons needed – 8 weeks prior the organizer can cancel and offer instead an alternative tour or send a refund. Delegates will be informed immediately if this happens.
